Attack On Rap
I'm sick and tired of people attacking rap music. Many people say rap music promotes violence, hate and homophobia but there's a lot more than meets the eye.
Just because rappers use foul language and talks about gritty scenarios and situations doesn't mean they're promoting violence, hate, or homophobia. Rappers just talk about the harsh realities of where they come from, where they grew up, and what they were/are exposed to. Just because a rapper uses the word "b*tch" doesn't mean he or she hates women, just because a rapper uses the word "f*ggot" doesn't mean he or she is anti-gay, it's just the lingo they've known to use their whole lives. They use this language because when you grow up around a certain environment or you're around something for around something for long enough you start to pick up the same characteristics. Rap started on the streets by men, you can't expect them to talk like scholars. Yes rappers talk about guns, death, and other gritty situations but that doesn't mean they're promoting violence. If people say rap music promotes violence and it's not okay, then why are people allowed to make movies and TV shows that show people getting shot, or shows where women are objectified and raped. It's not fair, if rappers are attacked for talking about the things they want, why aren't producers and executives attacked for allowing TV shows and movies that show the same things to be made and shown to the public.
Many parents like to point fingers and say that rappers are bad role models for their kids but why is it the rapper's responsibility to be a role model for other people's children? If a child comes home and uses a new word that he or she has never used before than it's the parents responsibility to step in and have a talk with them to find out why they're acting differently. If a parent considers a rapper to be a bad role model then he or she needs to sit with their child and discuss the difference of what they consider good and bad instead of attack rappers and the art form.
Why is it that people point to the things they consider negative about rap, but not talk about it's positives? Many rappers give back to their communities. Many of them have charities and foundations that help under privileged kids. Rap is an art form that allows expression of self. Rap music allows people to see life through the eyes of another person. Rappers have fought long and hard for their success and no one should be allowed to point fingers and try to disgrace their hard work. Rap music is like watching the news channel, it has a lot of different content ranging from drugs to race to religion to sex and much, much more. If you don't like it you should change the channel, or in this case stop listening.
